Do They Know It’s Christmas? was originally released in December 1984 by Band Aid, written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia. The song has since been re recorded for subsequent Band Aid campaigns.

Robbie Williams participated in the 2004 version, recorded as Band Aid 20 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the original release. The updated recording featured a large ensemble of contemporary British and Irish artists and was produced by Nigel Godrich.

The arrangement retained the structure of the 1984 version while incorporating modern production elements. Williams’ vocal contribution formed part of the collective performance rather than a solo lead section.

The 2004 single reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, continuing the song’s charitable legacy. Williams’ involvement aligned him with a tradition of high profile collaborative fundraising efforts within the UK music industry.
