Eternity / The Road to Mandalay was released in July 2001 as a double A side single. The release did not originate from a parent studio album but was issued as a standalone project during the promotional cycle that followed Sing When You’re Winning.
Eternity, written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, features a prominent guitar riff adapted from a theme by composer David Snell. The Road to Mandalay, also written by Williams and Chambers, draws on a more reflective arrangement, incorporating elements inspired by classical melody.
Lyrically, both tracks explore themes of longing and emotional introspection. Eternity adopts a romantic tone centred on permanence and devotion, while The Road to Mandalay reflects on distance and the search for meaning.

The single reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Williams’ fourth UK number one single. Its success reinforced his commercial dominance in the early 2000s and remains a notable standalone release in his catalogue.
