Everybody Hurts was released in February 2010 as a charity single organised by Simon Cowell to support the Disasters Emergency Committee following the Haiti earthquake. The recording brought together a large group of British and Irish artists under the banner Helping Haiti.
Robbie Williams was among the featured vocalists on the track, which is a cover of the 1992 song by R.E.M. Produced by Steve Robson and Mike Stock, the arrangement combines orchestral backing with a shared vocal structure, with different artists performing individual lines.
The single was recorded in London and aimed to raise funds for humanitarian relief. Its production retained the emotive tone of the original while adapting it for a multi artist charity format.
Everybody Hurts debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart and became one of the fastest selling singles of 2010. Williams’ participation placed him among a broad coalition of performers supporting the fundraising initiative.
