Greatest Hits was released in October 2004 as Robbie Williams’ first official compilation album. Issued through EMI, the collection brought together material from his solo career up to that point, spanning releases from Life Thru a Lens to Escapology.
The album features chart singles including Angels, Let Me Entertain You, Rock DJ and Feel, alongside two new tracks recorded for the compilation, Radio and Misunderstood. The project served both as a retrospective and as a contractual closing chapter of Williams’ tenure with EMI.
Musically, Greatest Hits reflects the range of Williams’ output during his first seven years as a solo artist, from guitar led pop rock to ballads and dance influenced tracks. The sequencing presents a concise overview of his commercial peak in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
It’s a celebration of what we’ve done so far.Robbie Williams
The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and became one of the best selling releases of his career. Its success consolidated Williams’ status as one of the UK’s most commercially successful solo artists of the era.
