Intensive Care was released in October 2005 as Robbie Williams’ sixth studio album. It followed the commercial success of Escapology and marked a renewed collaboration with songwriter and producer Stephen Duffy.
The album was written primarily with Duffy and recorded in Los Angeles. Its lead single, Tripping, introduced a darker, more electronic influenced sound, while subsequent singles including Advertising Space and Sin Sin Sin reflected a varied approach to arrangement and tone.
Musically, Intensive Care blends guitar led pop with electronic textures and introspective balladry. Lyrically, the record explores themes of fame, identity and personal reflection, continuing subjects that had surfaced on earlier releases.
It’s a very personal record.Robbie Williams
The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, becoming Williams’ fifth consecutive UK number one studio album. Its success reinforced his commercial standing in the mid 2000s while signalling an evolution in his songwriting partnerships.
