Light Years was released in September 2000 as Kylie Minogue’s seventh studio album. The record marked a commercial resurgence for Minogue and featured a renewed focus on upbeat, disco influenced pop.
Robbie Williams collaborated with Minogue on the duet Kids, which was written by Williams and Guy Chambers and produced by Steve Power. The track was included on Light Years and later appeared on selected editions of Sing When You’re Winning, forming part of Williams’ 2000 single campaign.
Musically, Light Years blends dance pop, disco revival elements and high energy production. The inclusion of Kids added a brassy, theatrical dynamic, highlighting the interplay between Minogue and Williams.
The album reached number two on the UK Albums Chart and restored Minogue’s chart prominence. For Williams, the collaboration reinforced his presence within the pop mainstream at the height of his commercial success.
