Lovelight was released in November 2006 as the second single from Rudebox. The track is a cover of the 1979 song by Lewis Taylor and continued the electronic direction established by the album’s title single.
Produced by Soul Mekanik, the recording is built around a steady electronic groove, layered synth textures and an extended instrumental outro. Its club oriented arrangement reflects the dance influences that shaped much of the parent album.
Lyrically, Lovelight centres on longing and emotional connection, delivered through a repetitive and hypnotic structure. Williams’ interpretation maintains the core of Taylor’s composition while reframing it within a contemporary electro pop context.
Bring me your lovelight.Robbie Williams
The single reached the UK top ten and achieved moderate success across Europe. Although it did not match the impact of earlier hits, Lovelight remains representative of the stylistic experimentation that defined the Rudebox era.
