No Regrets was released in December 1998 as the second single from I’ve Been Expecting You. Written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, the song features backing vocals from Neil Tennant and Neil Hannon.
Produced by Steve Power, the recording adopts a dramatic, piano led arrangement that builds towards an orchestral chorus. The involvement of Tennant and Hannon added a distinctive tonal layer to the track’s climactic sections.
Lyrically, No Regrets addresses themes of reconciliation and reflection, widely interpreted at the time as alluding to Williams’ former bandmates in Take That. The song balances vulnerability with resolve, underscored by its expansive production.
No regrets, they don’t work.Robbie Williams
The single reached the UK top five and further strengthened the commercial performance of I’ve Been Expecting You. It remains one of the more introspective singles of Williams’ late 1990s catalogue.
