About this Release

BBC Radio 1 Established 1967 was released in 1997 to mark the 30th anniversary of the station’s launch. The compilation featured contemporary artists covering songs that had been significant in the year Radio 1 began broadcasting.

Robbie Williams contributed a cover of The Kinks’ All Day and All of the Night. Recorded during the early phase of his solo career, the track adopts a guitar driven arrangement that reflects the Britpop influenced sound associated with Life Thru a Lens.

The project was conceived as both a celebration of British pop history and a showcase for leading artists of the 1990s. Williams’ participation positioned him within a broader lineage of UK guitar music at a formative moment in his solo trajectory.

The album achieved commercial success in the UK, and Williams’ contribution stands as one of several non album recordings he made during his late 1990s breakthrough period.
