Swings Both Ways was released in November 2013 as Robbie Williams’ tenth studio album and his second swing themed project, following Swing When You’re Winning. The album combines newly written songs with classic standards, recorded with big band arrangements.
Williams reunited with producer Guy Chambers for much of the writing, marking their first extensive collaboration in several years. The record features a number of guest artists, including Lily Allen, Michael Bublé, Rufus Wainwright and Kelly Clarkson, reflecting its duets focused concept.
The original compositions sit alongside interpretations of established standards, maintaining the orchestral, brass driven style associated with traditional swing. The project balances contemporary songwriting with mid twentieth century influences, aligning with Williams’ longstanding affinity for the genre.
I’ve always loved this kind of music.Robbie Williams
