About
All Climb On is the fifth track on Under the Radar Vol. 1, written by Robbie Williams, Guy Chambers and Chris Heath, and produced by Chambers with Richard Flack. It was first conceived in Los Angeles in January 2013, during writing sessions for Swings Both Ways. Though it did not fit that album’s concept, Williams retained it for this self-released collection, where its introspective tone found a natural home.
The song is a mid-tempo anthem built around piano and strings, combining optimism with melancholy. Williams described it as a message to himself, a reminder to persevere when life feels overwhelming. The refrain “climb on” becomes both literal and symbolic, urging resilience in moments of despair. It is one of the most personal tracks on the record, balancing vulnerability with determination.
His vocal performance is understated yet emotionally resonant, allowing the lyrics’ themes of mortality and courage to take focus. With its sweeping bridge and reflective melody, the song captures the spirit of renewal that defines much of Under the Radar Vol. 1.
“It’s a sort of message to myself because I can emotionally and physically give up, and it’s quite a frightening place to be when you decide you’ve given up. Hasn’t happened for a long time, but just in case, this is a message in a bottle to say no, climb on.”Robbie Williams
All Climb On has become one of Williams’ most cherished deep cuts, praised by fans for its sincerity and strength. Its uplifting message and elegant arrangement give it the quiet power of a hidden classic.
Lyrics
Whatever you've seen
Whatever it's done
All climb on
Whatever it takes
Whatever you're on
And the truth is we don't know
About how or why or where or when we go
Oh we must be very brave
I came here for eternity
It took my breath away
Then I was told I couldn't stay
All climb on
The bodies you've left
The battles you've won
Oh we're up all naked
It's not that complicated
I climb on
By chance of grand design
We were built to climb
It's a sign
Climb on
And the truth is we don't know
About how or why or where or when we go
In the end no matter what
I'm gonna make the most of what precious time I've got
From the cradle to the grave
To take those opportunities I must be very brave
Could it all be a mistake
Too scared to care
Too hurt to love
Enough
Climb on
Too scared to breathe
In here with me
My love
Climb on
It's my soul transmission
A higher calling, call it love
Climb on
All my life these visions
Telling me to keep on fighting
Climb on
Too scared to care
Too hurt to love
Enough
Climb on
Too scared to breathe
In here with me
My love
Climb on
