About
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) is track five on the Christmas Future disc of The Christmas Present. Written by Ellie Greenwich, Jeff Barry and Phil Spector, the song was originally recorded by Darlene Love for the 1963 album *A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector*. Robbie Williams’s version, featuring Bryan Adams, reimagines the classic in his own rock-soul style.
Williams said he first discovered the song through U2’s cover and was struck by its energy and emotion. Wanting to bring that same power to his own version, he invited Adams to record it with him, noting that “he’s got one of the best rock voices of all time.” The pair’s collaboration was born out of friendship, having met on holiday and bonded over shared experiences in the music industry.
Produced by Guy Chambers, the track retains the wall-of-sound feel of Spector’s original, with brass, sleigh bells and gospel-style backing vocals provided by the REP Vocal Agency. Both singers trade lines and harmonise on the chorus, building to a joyous finale that evokes the spirit of the 1960s while adding a modern polish.
“I thought Bryan would be a good fit because he’s got one of the best rock voices of all time, and this song needs one of those voices.”Robbie Williams
Williams opened his 2019 Christmas Party shows at Wembley Arena with this duet, setting an exuberant tone for the concert. Although the pair recorded their vocals separately, the final mix captures a sense of shared celebration, making Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) one of the album’s most vibrant performances.
