About
Coco’s Christmas Lullaby is an original composition from the first disc of The Christmas Present, written by Robbie Williams with Calvin Harris, Richard Scott and Danny Spencer. The tender ballad was inspired by Williams’s daughter Coco, born in 2018, and evokes the warmth and innocence of a family Christmas Eve. The recording features the Ella May Choir, whose children’s harmonies add a nostalgic glow to its gentle swing arrangement.
Williams described the song as “an ovaltine or a chamomile,” likening it to a cosy bedtime drink that sends children peacefully to sleep before Christmas morning. “It’s a soporific, cosy and warm,” he explained. “The perfect way to send your children off to sleep the night before Christmas.” The melody and orchestration recall classic mid-century lullabies, while the lyrics offer reassurance and affection: “If you’ve been good, then Santa knows / Just keep those eyes closed.”
Recorded with brushed percussion, muted brass and plucked strings, the song captures Williams’s affection for vintage orchestral pop. The combination of paternal tenderness and sophisticated musicianship gives the track both emotional depth and timeless appeal. Its reprise later in the album closes the “Christmas Past” disc, reinforcing the family theme that runs through the collection.
“I’m very proud when my boys, my friends from Stoke and me, get to write something that’s going to exist on a record. People think they’ve heard it before—and that’s because it sounds like Christmas.”Robbie Williams
Coco’s Christmas Lullaby stands among the album’s most personal moments, reflecting Williams’s life as a father and his ability to craft new seasonal standards within the familiar language of swing.
Lyrics
Time to rest your buzzy head
The land of dozy dreams ahead
For you
Driftin' like the fall of snow
Feathers floatin' down below
If you've been good then Santa knows
Just keep those eyes closed
Softly sleeps the silent night
Fade your troubles out of sight
With a Christmas lullaby
For you
Whisper soft and drift away
Soon it will be Christmas day
For now, just dream sweet and sleep tight
Little ones, it's time for bed
Time to rest your buzzy head
The land of dozy dreams ahead
For you
Drifting like the fall of snow
Feathers floatin' down below
If you've been good then Santa knows
Just keep those eyes closed
Softly sleeps the silent night
Fade your troubles out of sight
With a Christmas lullaby
For you
Whisper soft and drift away
Soon it will be Christmas day
For now, just dream sweet and sleep tight
For now, just dream sweet and sleep tight
