About
Elastik was released as a B side to the 2010 single Morning Sun, issued during the Reality Killed the Video Star campaign. The track accompanied the album’s final single and formed part of the small group of non-album recordings completed with long-time collaborators Kelvin Andrews, Danny Spencer and Richard Scott.
Developed within the same creative circle that shaped much of the album, Elastik reflects the loose, groove-led style that characterised several of the era’s B sides. Built on a looping rhythmic figure and a bright electronic palette, the track leans into repetition and playful phrasing, contrasting with the more orchestral tone of the parent album.
Its lyrics draw on imagery of flexibility and tension, pairing physical metaphors with the theme of emotional stretch. The arrangement foregrounds a steady beat, interlocking vocal lines and an elastic melodic hook, giving the song a lighter and more experimental edge than the album’s core material.
Although not performed live, Elastik has remained a recognised companion piece to Morning Sun, illustrating the breadth of supplementary material produced around the album. Its compact structure and left-field character mark it as a typical example of the exploratory B-side work Williams released during this period.
Lyrics
Takin' over
My imagination
Getting wider
This elastication
Automatic
No self-preservation
Pull me into shape
My testimony never fails
Like a metronome, on the nail
First thing in the morning
Late at night
Stretch me to the maximum
'Til I feel alright
Want you to
Push stronger
I need your elastic for tension
Wait longer
I need to release your potential
I want you to
I want you to
I want you to
Since you put your hand then
In the pocket
I've been rubberbandin'
I can't stop it
Stretch it to the distance
Don't you get it?
Makin' no resistance
Please don't let me go
My testimony never fails
Like a metronome on the nail
First thing in the morning
Late at night
Stretch me to the maximum
'Til I feel alright
Want you to
Push stronger
I need your elastic for tension
Wait longer
I need to release your potential
I want you to
I want you to
I want you to
It's your intervention
So demanding
Feel my surface tension
I'm expanding
Step into the same shape
Where I started
For your fascination
Elasticate my soul
My testimony never fails
Like a metronome on the nail
First thing in the morning
To late at night
Stretch me to the maximum
'Til I feel alright
Want you to
Push stronger
I need your elastic for tension
Wait longer
I need to release your potential
Push stronger
I need your elastic for tension
Wait longer
I need to release your potential
I want you to
I want you to
I want you to
