About
Home closes the Christmas Future disc of The Christmas Present with a tender reflection on love, family and return. Written by Robbie Williams, Karl Brazil, Owen Parker and Sam Shaw, it was recorded partly at Williams’s home studio and includes guest vocals from his daughter Teddy.
The song grew from Shaw’s idea of writing a Christmas piece that captured the emotion of returning home after long absences. Williams said that the lyric “How many sleeps do I have to wait now to throw these loving arms to my family?” came from his experience of being away on promotion tours while his wife and children prepared for the holiday. Its orchestral arrangement and soaring chorus evoke the warmth of traditional Christmas ballads, while maintaining a modern, cinematic depth.
The recording brought together the families of the musicians involved: Karl Brazil’s son Finley and Owen Parker’s children contributed backing vocals alongside Teddy. This personal element adds to the track’s authenticity, making Home both intimate and expansive in tone. The song was considered as the potential lead single before Time for Change was chosen.
“It’s just a song about how many sleeps I have to wait to throw my loving arms around my world. My daughter wandered into the studio singing along, and it seemed right to capture that moment.”Robbie Williams
Fans and critics alike have highlighted Home as one of Williams’s most moving performances, blending nostalgia with gratitude. Its themes of belonging and togetherness provide a graceful conclusion to the album’s story, closing The Christmas Present on an emotional, hopeful note.
Lyrics
Spring and summer flew by in an instant
I've always said the wasted times
Are the minutes I'm not by your side
And I would travel through the night
Just to be there
I told you I'm never too far away
And if you need me then I'm on my way
Believe me when I tell you that I wanna stay
And we're all together now
You are the light that is guiding me back
And I'll be home for Christmas
Home for Christmas
Home for Christmas, now
How many sleeps do I have to wait now
To throw these loving arms around my world
I've always said the wasted times
Are the minutes I'm not by your side
And I would travel through the night
I will be there
I told you I'm never too far away
And if you need me then I'm on my way
Believe me when I tell you that I wanna stay
And we're all together now
You are the light that is guiding me back
And I'll be home for Christmas
Home for Christmas
Home for Christmas, now
My family, not so ordinary
You'd love them too
A little out of tune
But we'll still sing for you
I told you I'm never too far away
And if you need me then I'm on my way
Believe me when I tell you that I wanna stay
And we're all together now
You are the light that is guiding me back
And I'll be home for Christmas
Home for Christmas
Home for Christmas, now
I'll unlock the door and I'll crawl into bed
You've got a big day tomorrow so sleep sleepyhead
(We've got to unlock the door and we'll crawl into bed)
And I'll be home for Christmas
Home for Christmas
Home for Christmas, now
I'll unlock the door and I'll crawl into bed
You've got a big day tomorrow so sleep sleepyhead
We got to unlock the door and I'll crawl into bed [Teddy]
You've got a big day tomorrow so sleep sleepyhead [Teddy]
(Aaahhh haaaa)
