About

Immortal introduced a new dimension to Visions Volume 1 upon the album’s release on 6 October 2023. Written by Robbie Williams, Tim Metcalfe and Flynn Francis, it features guest vocals and co-writing by Sophie Ellis-Bextor. The collaboration, produced by Metcalfe, Francis and Ryan Ingram, became one of the album’s most talked-about moments, uniting two distinctive voices from different corners of British pop in a pulsing electronic duet. An extended mix and lyric video accompanied the release.

Williams first approached Ellis-Bextor after sharing early Lufthaus demos, inviting her to write and record her part remotely. Her crystalline vocal and melodic top line transformed the song’s early structure, inspiring multiple revisions until the final version emerged. Built on a euphoric piano motif and layered synths, Immortal balances the ethereal and the anthemic, paying tribute to the enduring culture of dance floors as places of connection and release.

The lyrics celebrate freedom, unity and the timeless energy of nightlife “We don’t truly understand, but somehow we all know it” capturing the spirit of communal transcendence that underpins the Lufthaus project. Ellis-Bextor’s bright tone and Williams’s deeper vocal blend seamlessly, creating a dialogue between light and shadow that mirrors the song’s theme of eternal escape through music.

“Our song celebrates the importance of club culture and how important it is for people to get together and dance.”Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Melodic, cinematic and defiantly optimistic, Immortal stands out as the most overtly celebratory track on Visions Volume 1. It bridges eras and genres, reaffirming Williams’s versatility while affirming Lufthaus’s belief in music’s power to connect across time and sound.

Lyrics

The lights are all turned down in this town
And we're not allowed to dance here anymore
When we're fighting without sound
Better take it underground
'Cause we're not allowed to dance here anymore, anymore
Anymore
When we're fighting without sound
Better take it underground
'Cause we're not allowed to dance here anymore, anymore

So then they take your rights
So you don't see them going
We don't truly understand but someone we all know it
Let the people dance
Let the people dance
All we have are memories of nights like this

But the lights are all turned down in this town
And we're not allowed to dance here anymore
When we're fighting without sound
Better take it underground
'Cause we're not allowed to dance here anymore, anymore
Anymore

When we're fighting without sound
Better take it underground
'Cause we're not allowed to dance here anymore, anymore
Anymore
Anymore

Let the people dance
Let the people dance
