About

Love My Life was released on 21 October 2016 as the second single from Heavy Entertainment Show. It was written by Robbie Williams with Gary Go, Johnny McDaid and Jonny Coffer, and produced by McDaid, Go and Coffer. The song became the album’s most successful single, peaking at number 22 in the UK and reaching the top ten across Europe, including number one in Slovakia and Slovenia.

Williams and McDaid were separately inspired by the Marianne Williamson quote, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” The pair developed a chorus of affirmation which Williams described as an “empowerment song to myself”, later realising that he could frame it as a message to his children. This approach allowed him to deliver the sentiment without irony, turning what might have seemed self-congratulatory into a universal statement of love and encouragement.

“Love My Life” was the final song written for the album after more than seventy contenders. Williams believed it had the strongest single potential, calling it “an anthem of self-belief” and a reflection of his recovery from depression. With its open-hearted lyric and anthemic arrangement, the track connected widely with audiences and became a fixture of his live shows.

“It’s a message to Ayda, to the kids, to myself: self-empowerment, give yourself some love, believe in yourself. If you can’t be confident, be brave.”Robbie Williams

The accompanying video, directed by Vaughan Arnell and filmed on the Isle of Sheppey, depicted Williams walking along coastal roads and beaches as a camera crew followed. Shot partly in slow motion, it presented a contemplative image that echoed the song’s themes of self-acceptance. The simple visuals and soft palette contrasted with the exuberance of his previous videos, emphasising the song’s sincerity.

Critics generally praised the single’s uplifting tone. NME described it as “a vanilla ballad”, yet its enduring popularity proved its reach beyond critical expectations. Certified silver in the UK and gold in Germany and Switzerland, Love My Life became Williams’ last UK Top 40 hit to date and a modern staple of his live repertoire.

Lyrics

Tether your soul to me
I will never let go completely
One day your hands will be
Strong enough to hold me

I might not be there for all your battles
But you'll win them eventually
I pray that I'm giving you all that matters
So one day you'll say to me

I love my life
I am powerful, I am beautiful, I am free
I love my life
I am wonderful, I am magical, I am me
I love my life

I am not my mistakes
And God knows, I've made a few
I started to question the angels
And the answer they gave was you

I cannot promise there won't be sadness
I wish I could take it from you
But you'll find the courage to face the madness
And sing it because it's true

I love my life
I am powerful, I am beautiful, I am free
I love my life
I am wonderful, I am magical, I am me
I love my life

Find the others with hearts like yours
Run far, run free. I'm with you

I love my life
I am powerful, I am beautiful, I am free
I love my life
I am wonderful, I am magical, I am me

I love my life
I am powerful, I am beautiful, I am free
I love my life
I am wonderful, I am magical, I am me
I love my life

And finally I'm where I wanna be
