About
My Fuck You to You appears on Under the Radar Vol. 2 and was written by composer and producer Fil Eisler, with lyrical revisions by Robbie Williams. Produced by Eisler and recorded in Los Angeles, it was originally written by Eisler in his twenties as a response to bullying. Williams, a long-time admirer of the song, first recorded a version around 2005 and later revisited it for inclusion on this collection, adding personal touches that gave the track a new resonance.
Built around a sparse acoustic guitar and understated rhythm section, the song delivers a quietly furious message of defiance and release. Williams’ raw vocal performance gives the lyric’s restrained bitterness a sense of hard-won peace. Lines such as “You taught me the value of never losing sleep, you sink like a home, putting children on the street” balance anger with weary resignation. He described it as “not wholly who I am, but a part of me that exists.”
Williams suggested that the song spoke to a specific person from his past, though he declined to name them. He compared its sentiment to the warning, “If you’re going to seek revenge, dig two graves—one for you and one for the other person,” acknowledging the futility of resentment even as he channels it into art.
“It resonates with me because I have a lot of anger and resentment, and whether it’s justified or not, it exists.”Robbie Williams
The black-and-white video, directed by Leo Baron and released on 16 April 2018, features Williams alone in a luxury hotel suite, wandering between piano, balcony and camera lens while Polaroids scatter across the room. Its simplicity and monochrome palette highlight the intimacy of the performance. Praised by fans for its honesty and vulnerability, My Fuck You to You ranks among Williams’ most poignant late-career recordings, pairing personal catharsis with understated beauty.
Lyrics
Let them lie follow someone else's dream
One day I'll look back at this and die
But you won't know what it means
To never see me
Did we sail you down river
Do you run around all day avoiding mirrors
Do you find comfort in the hate
Is this abuse too late
My heart's just bleeding for you
And this is my fuck you to you
By the time you were into my blood
I was all of seventeen
You were the light of my life
And the darkness in-between
Whatever that means
Did they sail you down river
Did they give you stuff to keep your head together
When your fake to the core
What are you keeping it real for
Dumb hearts lie bleeding for you
So this is a fuck you
I used to see you in my dreams
But I could not compete
Then you taught me the value
Of never losing sleep
How you sink like a home putting children on the street
Is it anger or sympathy
How I sail you down river
But you must feel some disdain then I'll forgive you
All day long you are night
But I am vaguely right
My hearts just bleeding for you
This is a fuck you
This is my fuck you to you
