About
The standard edition of Britpop was released on 16 January 2026, with Britpop Deluxe following three days later on 19 January. The deluxe release expands the album with six additional tracks, the first of which is Selfish Disco, positioned as a new opening statement rather than a footnote.
Selfish Disco reframes the Britpop project through the lens of personal freedom. Its lyrics reject cultural hierarchy and nostalgia-as-status, taking aim at “the cool kids” while celebrating everything from 90s chart pop to punk. References to S Club, Blue, Buzzcocks and Siouxsie Sioux sit deliberately side by side, suggesting that taste is less about credibility than connection.
The song’s central idea is insular rather than communal. Dancing here is private, domestic and defiant; played out in kitchens and late nights, not clubs.
