About
Snowflakes is the ninth track on the Christmas Future disc of The Christmas Present. Written by Robbie Williams with Flynn Francis, Conrad Olsen and Philipp Steinke, it is a comic yet affectionate depiction of family life during the festive season.
The song takes its title from the modern term “snowflake”, meaning someone who is easily offended, and playfully contrasts it with the literal sense of a snowy Christmas. Williams explained that he wanted to write “a comedy version of what happens in our house at Christmas Day,” weaving satire into a bright, brassy melody full of singalong hooks.
Lyrics describe a chaotic household gathering, from “Nana Gwen’s drank too much” to “My lovely wife was buzzed at brunch,” portraying a multigenerational Christmas dinner full of affection and minor dysfunction. Despite the humour, the chorus — “Time won’t change us, nothing will, I know they’re not perfect but I love them still” — affirms the importance of family and forgiveness.
“It was cool to be able to use some modern language in an old Christmas style format. It’s basically a comedy version of what happens at our home, the Williams household, on Christmas Day.”Robbie Williams
Performed with energetic brass and gospel-style backing vocals, Snowflakes became one of the live highlights of Williams’s 2019 Christmas Party concerts. Balancing wit, warmth and a touch of chaos, it captures the album’s central theme of celebrating imperfection and connection.
Lyrics
But come back quick
Eat so much it makes us sick
Start to look just like St. Nick
And fall down like a snowflake
Uncle Dylan's late to lunch
Nana Gwen's drank too much
My lovely wife was buzzed at brunch
We're all a bunch of snowflakes
We're all a bunch of snowflakes
My baby's stepdad has brought Mary Lou
Try to tell us why Trump is good for you
The table goes quiet because that's what we do
We're all liberal snowflakes
My dad's new girlfriend from Taiwan
Brand new to the country and she's 21
They met online and now she's my mum
She's never seen a snowflake
Cause they don't get no snowflakes
Once in a lonely lifetime, there'll be peace for all mankind
I went out to the world and I was searching for my tribe
Now it's all family vibe
In this home of mine
The reason I'm alive
These snowflakes of mine
Mum's bringing up the past again
And somehow World War 3 begins
I think I know how this one ends
I'm off to watch the snowflakes
Time won't change us nothing will
I know they're not perfect but I love them still
Not much makes me happy but my family will
Love this bunch of snowflakes
God bless this bunch of snowflakes
Once in a lonely lifetime, there'll be peace for all mankind
I went out to the world and I was searching for my tribe
Now it's all family vibe
In this home of mine
The reason I'm alive
These snowflakes of mine
All my life
A love insane
These are my people
Whoa-o-o-a
Time won't change us nothing will
I know they're not perfect but I love them still
Not much makes me happy but my family will
Love this bunch of snowflakes
God bless this bunch of snowflakes
