About

Written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, Song 3 takes its name from an in-joke between the pair — a nod to Blur’s Song 2 and to Williams’ irreverent approach to album sequencing. Recorded while in Los Angeles and later refined in London, the track bursts with punk-inspired energy and chaotic humour, serving as one of the most raucous moments on Escapology. It was written during a creative high point, with Williams describing himself at the time as “belly laughing every day and feeling indestructible.”

The track blends rock guitars, distorted vocals and rapid-fire lyrics that reference California culture and celebrity absurdity. Its spontaneous energy mirrors Williams’ fascination with the excess of Los Angeles life — “Gotta love L.A., California, U.S.A.” — while the playful aggression of the chorus captures the manic restlessness of his fame.

It sort of says everything and nothing at the same time. It’s just the excitement of being in L.A., laughing all the time, feeling like I could do anything.Robbie Williams

With its shout-along refrains and tongue-in-cheek bravado, Song 3 injects a jolt of unfiltered attitude into the album’s middle section. Though never released as a single, it became a fan favourite for its chaotic spirit and unpolished honesty. In its raw exuberance, it reflects the essence of Escapology — messy, magnetic and unmistakably Robbie Williams.

Lyrics

Come join the band
Come shag the damned
God I blow them away
A heart of chrome
A broken home
I got plenty to say

Who are you doing
Don't spoil my day
A bigger better offer baby
He's on his way
You gotta love LA

I feel gigantic
Gonna burst a vein
I'm stopping traffic
'Cause they dig the fame
And I'm just the same

So Ebay Baby
Haven't seen you lately
Do you still give it away
So get my peeps
To call your peeps
'Cause we've got nothing to say

Don't feed the models
Don't look at police
Don't go to Crenshaw boule
'Cause whitey can get fleeced
God I love LA

I feel gigantic
Gonna burst a vein
I'm stopping traffic
'Cause I dig the fame
I'm hearing voices, voices
Like a jumbo jay
Too many choices, choices
Gotta love LA
Kaliforni-a USA baby

Who you doing baby
Don't spoil my day
You've been gloating lately baby
And I dig LA
I'd have to say

I feel gigantic
Gonna burst a vein
I'm stopping traffic
I kinda dig the fame
I'm hearing voices, voices
I've gotta jumbo jay
Too many choices, choices
Gotta love LA
Californi-a
