About
Soul Transmission appears as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of The Christmas Present, linking the festive album to Robbie Williams’s earlier work. Originally written around the time of Take the Crown in 2012 with Kelvin Andrews, Danny Spencer and Richard Scott, the song was re-recorded for inclusion on this album, giving new prominence to a track previously known only to fans.
Williams described Soul Transmission as a song “about hope and perseverance” that was inspired by one of his loneliest Christmases, spent in isolation and uncertainty. Its lyrics explore faith, destiny and connection, expressed through a slow, atmospheric arrangement that builds into an uplifting chorus. Orchestral layers, choral harmonies and electronic textures combine to create a spiritual ambience that complements the reflective tone of the Christmas Future disc.
Revisiting the song years later, Williams said he wanted to give it a wider audience, believing it had been overlooked when first released as a B-side. In this new form, its themes of endurance and renewal aligned naturally with the album’s message of finding light in difficult times.
“It’s a song of hope and perseverance, telling that person to keep going when I didn’t feel like I wanted to.”Robbie Williams
Though not explicitly about Christmas, Soul Transmission closes the deluxe edition on a spiritual note, bridging personal reflection with transcendence. Its inclusion underlines Williams’s ongoing fascination with faith, resilience and the search for meaning beyond fame or circumstance.
Lyrics
This isn't just a hurricane
When you know what's coming
It's a soul transmission
As we walk through history together
Do you think we still come from
This world we live on
It's a soul condition
How does it feel
What you want me to say eh eh
I said it feels like being alone
On Christmas Day
Pretty soon the world will start shaking
Living in a tremelo
And I don't get injured
In my soul transmission
How does it feel
What do you want me to say eh eh
I said it feels like being alone
On Christmas Day
Sights and sounds
At the end of the day eh eh
Make me feel like being alone
On Christmas Day
Oh keep it up
It's your soul transmission
Oh keep it up
It's your soul transmission
Oh keep it up
It's your soul transmission
Oh keep it up
It's your soul transmission
Waiting in an empty cathedral
To look at what I'm running from
And I don't get nervous
It's a soul transmission
How does it feel
What do you want me to say
I said it feels like being alone
On Christmas Day
Sights and sounds
At the end of the day eh eh
Make you feel like being
Alone on Christmas Day
