About
Stop Crying Your Heart Out was recorded by Robbie Williams as part of the BBC Radio 2 Allstars for the 2020 Children in Need charity single. Released on 13 November 2020, the track was a collaborative cover of the 2002 Oasis song written by Noel Gallagher and originally sung by Liam Gallagher on the album Heathen Chemistry.
The single was produced by Mark Taylor and Brian Rawling, with arrangements performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra. Alongside Williams, the line-up included Bryan Adams, Cher, Kylie Minogue, Paloma Faith, Mel C, Lenny Kravitz, Nile Rodgers, Clean Bandit and others, each recording their parts separately at home due to COVID-19 restrictions. The accompanying video, directed by Phil Deacon, featured split-screen performances of the artists in their own spaces, reflecting both isolation and solidarity during lockdown.
Williams sang the lines “Because all of the stars…” and “And you’ll see them someday”, his distinctive tone adding warmth to the collective performance. The version built gradually from piano to a full orchestral climax, echoing the resilience and optimism that characterised the charity appeal. The collaboration became a rare cross-generational unison between global performers at a time when live music was halted worldwide.
It’s such an honour to be part of something that brings people together for such an important cause, especially at a time when we all need connection and hope.Robbie Williams
Proceeds from the single supported children and young people across the UK affected by the pandemic. The Radio 2 Allstars’ Stop Crying Your Heart Out was widely praised for its sincerity and emotional impact, standing as one of 2020’s most memorable charity collaborations.
