About

The Full Monty Medley was released as a B-side to Let Me Entertain You and features Robbie Williams performing live with Tom Jones at the 1998 Brit Awards. The performance was part of the ceremony’s long-running tradition of pairing unexpected collaborators, and this unlikely duo turned the event into one of the most talked-about television moments of the year.

The medley included “Make Me Smile,” “Land of a Thousand Dances,” and other songs from soundtrack, which had just won Best Soundtrack or Cast Recording. Williams appeared in black leather, Jones in his trademark suit, and the two traded verses with playful competitiveness and effortless chemistry. The audience response was immediate, a mix of surprise and admiration for Williams’ confidence alongside a legend.

The performance also helped to propel Life Thru a Lens back up the UK Albums Chart, pushing it to No. 1 five months after its release. Critics praised Williams’ command of the stage and his ability to hold his own beside Jones, who later remarked on their similarities.

He reminds me of myself. He’s got that confidence — that thing where he just goes out there and owns it.Tom Jones

Williams, for his part, said he’d always wanted to duet with Tom Jones and considered the Brit Awards collaboration “a dream moment.” The pair’s exaggerated moves and mutual charisma captured the exuberance of late-’90s pop television and solidified Williams’ reputation as Britain’s most entertaining showman.

The Full Monty Medley remains a highlight of Williams’ early career — a bold, humorous, and musically sharp performance that blurred the line between parody and celebration, showing that he could match charisma with one of the greats and win the crowd every time.

Lyrics

Make Me Smile

You've done it all, you've broken every code Robbie Williams
And pulled this rebel to the floor Robbie Williams
You spoilt the game, no matter what you say Robbie Williams
For only metal - what a bore! Robbie Williams
Blue eyes, blue eyes, how come you tell so many lies Robbie Williams

Come up and see me, make me smile Robbie Williams
Or do what you want, a little while Robbie Williams
Come up and see me, make me smile Robbie Williams
Or do what you want, for a little while Robbie Williams

You Can Take Your Hat Off

MR Tom Jones JONES! Robbie Williams
Huh! Tom Jones
Baby take off your coat Tom Jones
(Tell 'em Tom Jones!) Robbie Williams
Real slow Tom Jones
Baby take off your shoes Tom Jones
I'll help you take off your shoes Tom Jones

You give me reason to live Tom Jones
You give me reason to live Tom Jones
You give me reason to live Tom Jones
You give me reason to live Tom Jones

Well, you can leave your hat on Robbie Williams
You can leave your hat on Tom Jones
Well, you can leave your hat on Robbie Williams
You can leave your hat on Tom Jones
Well, you can leave your hat on Robbie Williams

Leave it on, leave it on Tom Jones
Leave it on, leave it on Tom Jones
Leave it on, leave it on Tom Jones
Leave it on Tom Jones
You can leave your hat on - yeah Tom Jones

One two three Tom Jones
One two three yeah Robbie Williams
Oh yeah! Tom Jones
Come on! Robbie Williams

Land of the 1000 Dances

You gotta know how to pony Tom Jones
Like Bony Maronie Robbie Williams
Mashed potato Tom Jones
Do the alligator Robbie Williams
Put your hand on your hip Tom Jones
Let your back-bone slip Robbie Williams
Do the Watusi Tom Jones
Like your Aunt Lucy Robbie Williams

What are we singing, what are we singing Robbie Williams
Na na na na na Both
Na na na na na Both
Yeah! Both
Na na na na na Both
Na na na na na Both
Everybody kill it! Robbie Williams
Come on! Tom Jones

You gotta know how to pony Tom Jones
Like Mony Baronie Robbie Williams
Mashed potato Tom Jones
Do the alligator Robbie Williams
Put your hand on your hip Tom Jones
Let your backbone slip Robbie Williams
Do the Watusi Tom Jones
Like your Aunt Lucy Robbie Williams

Na na na na na Both
Na na na na na Both
Yes! Robbie Williams
Sing it with us now! Tom Jones
Na na na na na Both
Na na na na na Both
Yeah! Robbie Williams

Long tall Sally Tom Jones
Jump back in that alley babe Tom Jones
Put your hand on your hip Tom Jones
Let your backbone slip Tom Jones
