About
Where Do We Come From was released in July 2024, a collaboration between Don Diablo, Lufthaus and Kenyan vocalist Sofiya Nzau. The track brought together electronic, Afro-house and ambient influences, combining each artist’s distinct sound into a reflective, cross-cultural single. It was issued jointly by HEXAGON and Armada Music.
The song was written and produced by Don Diablo in collaboration with Lufthaus, the electronic project featuring Robbie Williams. Nzau’s vocal was recorded in Nairobi, later integrated into the European studio sessions that finalised the mix. Her performance, sung partly in Kikuyu and partly in English, added a distinctive texture that anchored the track’s meditative tone.
Musically, Where Do We Come From blends pulsing electronic percussion with melodic synth layers and organic vocal phrasing. The lyrics revolve around questions of origin and belonging, with the repeated line “Where do we come from?” serving as both hook and philosophical refrain. The production balances club-ready rhythm with a contemplative atmosphere, typical of Lufthaus’s cinematic approach.
“The secret ingredient was Sofiya. Her voice gave the record its emotion and global heartbeat.”Don Diablo
The single was met with positive reaction across international dance platforms, noted for its blend of European electronic production and East African vocal identity. For Williams, it extended Lufthaus’s exploration of genre fusion beyond their debut releases, while for Nzau it marked a milestone in her emergence on the global stage.
