Electrico Romantico

Electrico Romantico is a collaboration between Robbie Williams and French DJ and producer Bob Sinclar, released on 18 January 2019. Written by Williams, Sinclar and Belgian musician Jan E, the single was issued through Sinclar’s label Yellow Productions and distributed worldwide by Armada Music. A remix version, Romantico Starlight, followed later in 2019, credited to Bob Sinclar, The Superman Lovers and Williams.

The collaboration began after Williams and Sinclar met at a school gala in Los Angeles attended by their children. They subsequently recorded the track in Los Angeles. Sinclar described the song as a return to the disco and house influences of the 1970s and 1980s, combined with Williams’ established pop sensibility.

Built around a driving electronic groove and bright string arrangements, Electrico Romantico blends Sinclar’s rhythmic production with Williams’ expressive vocal delivery. The lyrics mix romance with irony, referencing contemporary dating culture and repeating the refrain “swipe left, swipe right” as a nod to digital era relationships. Williams’ falsetto chorus and spoken outro, “Nobody does it better than me,” add to the track’s theatrical tone.

I met Robbie at a school gala in Los Angeles. We talked, and he said, ‘Let’s do something together.’ We went into the studio and made a song about the digital era, about people meeting through screens instead of real life.Bob Sinclar

The single received notable airplay across Europe and accumulated significant streaming figures internationally. Electrico Romantico highlighted Williams’ willingness to collaborate within contemporary dance music, while maintaining the humour and self awareness associated with his solo work.
