Electrico Romantico

About

Electrico Romantico is a collaboration between Robbie Williams and French DJ and producer Bob Sinclar, released on 18 January 2019. Written by Williams, Sinclar and Belgian musician Jan E, the single was issued through Sinclar’s label Yellow Productions and distributed worldwide by Armada Music. A remix version, Romantico Starlight, followed later that year, credited to Bob Sinclar, The Superman Lovers and Williams.

The collaboration came about after Williams and Sinclar met at a gala in Los Angeles hosted by the French school their children attended. They began working together shortly afterwards, recording the song in Los Angeles. Sinclar described it as a playful return to the disco and house sounds of the 1970s and 1980s, blended with Williams’ classic pop flair. The lyrics mix romance and irony, with references to modern dating culture and a repeated “swipe left, swipe right” refrain that alludes to digital-age relationships.

Built around a driving electronic groove and bright strings, Electrico Romantico balances Sinclar’s rhythmic production with Williams’ expressive vocal range. The song’s retro sheen and exuberant tone made it a favourite among fans of both artists, achieving notable airplay in Europe and accumulating hundreds of millions of streams worldwide. Williams’ falsetto chorus and spoken outro, “Nobody does it better than me,” give the track its distinctive personality.

“I met Robbie at a school gala in Los Angeles. We talked, and he said, ‘Let’s do something together.’ We went into the studio and made a song about the digital era, about people meeting through screens instead of real life.”Bob Sinclar

Electrico Romantico showcases Williams’ versatility and his ability to adapt to contemporary dance music while maintaining his signature charm and humour.
