Escapology was released in November 2002 as Robbie Williams’ fifth studio album. It followed the commercial success of Sing When You’re Winning and marked the end of his long running songwriting partnership with Guy Chambers.
The album was recorded in Los Angeles and produced primarily by Chambers. It yielded several singles, including Feel, Come Undone and Something Beautiful, which showcased a more expansive and at times darker tone than some of his earlier material.
Musically, Escapology blends guitar led pop rock with elements of electronic production and introspective balladry. Lyrically, the record addresses themes of fame, self doubt and personal reflection, continuing motifs that had surfaced across Williams’ previous releases.
I needed to say some things on this record.Robbie Williams
The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and achieved significant international success. It remains one of Williams’ best selling studio albums and a pivotal release in his early 2000s career.
