Good Day Sunshine was recorded by Robbie Williams for the Netflix animated children’s series The Beat Bugs, which reimagined songs by The Beatles through contemporary artists. The show premiered in August 2016 and was created by Australian writer and director Josh Wakely, who secured worldwide rights to the Beatles’ catalogue through Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Williams performed the track in his role as Mr Sun during episode four of the first series.

Originally written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon, and first released by The Beatles on their 1966 album Revolver, the song captures carefree joy and the simple optimism of a summer morning. In Williams’ version, the melody and structure remain faithful to the original, but the arrangement by Daniel Johns (formerly of Silverchair) gives it a brighter, cinematic sound tailored to the series’ colourful aesthetic. The production layers strings and children’s chorus harmonies around Williams’ clear, buoyant vocal.

Williams’ participation placed him among an international line-up of performers who contributed to The Beat Bugs soundtrack, including Pink, Sia, James Corden, Rod Stewart, Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder and Jennifer Hudson. Each artist voiced a character and performed a Beatles song within the narrative, introducing the group’s music to a new generation of children and families.
