About
Written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, Hot Fudge is one of the most exuberant and funk-driven tracks on Escapology. Combining swagger, wit and a tongue-in-cheek view of celebrity culture, it channels the flamboyant energy of classic funk and soul while delivering Williams’ trademark humour. Though not released as a single, the song became a live favourite and was a highlight of his 2003 Weekends of Mass Distraction tour.
The track’s groove-heavy bassline, brass flourishes and handclaps provide a playful backdrop for Williams’ rapid-fire lyrics, which mix confidence and absurdity in equal measure. Lines such as “With a nation behind me, can’t stop the limey” and “Call a collagen genie, you big-lipped meanie” parody fame’s artificial glamour. Its infectious refrain and theatrical arrangement recall the showmanship of artists like Prince and James Brown.
It’s a celebration of finding myself. I remember thinking, what must it be like to be famous in America? And then realising — oh, that’s me now.Robbie Williams
Performed with a full brass section on tour, Hot Fudge became one of Williams’ signature live numbers, often merged with the cover Listen to the Music in concert. The song’s mix of playful self-awareness and funk exuberance captures the lighter side of Escapology, balancing its darker introspection with pure entertainment.
Lyrics
I'm on the second course today
I'm not the first and I won't be the worst
She's done most of LA
Can't find a virgin, I can get you a surgeon
Twenty-four hours a day
Call it 'Collagen Jeanie' you big lip meanie
I'm about to be blown away
Come on sing it
Take me to the place where the sunshine flows
Oh my Sunset Rodeo
Hot fudge here comes the judge
There's a green card in the way
The Holy Ghost and the whole East Coast
Are moving to LA
And we've been dreaming of this feeling since 1988
Mother things have got to change
I'm moving to LA
Take the piss always English
God bless you Uncle Sam
You got a cool gene pool and our winter is cruel
And God knows I love to tan
Making cents and dead Presidents
Before I could count to ten
With a nation behind me can't stop the limey
She's on her back again
Come on sing it
Take me to the place where the sunshine flows
Oh my Sunset Rodeo
Hot fudge here comes the judge
There's just a green card in the way
The Holy Ghost and the whole East Coast
Are moving to LA
'Cause we've been dreaming of this
feeling since 1988
LA LA LA
LA LA LA
Take me to the place where the sunshine flows
Oh my Sunset Rodeo
Hot Fudge here comes the judge
There's just a green card in the way
The Holy Ghost and the whole East Coast
Are moving to LA
'Cause we've been dreaming of this
feeling since 1988
Mother things have got to change
I'm moving to
Hot fudge here comes the judge
There's just a green card in the way
The Holy Ghost and the whole East Coast
Are moving to LA
And we've been dreaming of this feeling since 1988
Mother things have got to change
I'm moving to LA
Moving to LA
Keep on moving, keep on moving, keep on moving to
LA
LA LA
Keep on moving, moving on
Keep on moving, moving on
Keep on moving, moving on
... and stop
